Those darn kids want to see the industry FAIL!!!

The lousy thing about being on top is the constant fear that someone or something is going to come along and knock you off your pedestal. And that paranoia can make one say and do things that just might be viewed as ridiculous. Some the industry's fears about some people using technology for nefarious purposed are legit, but the majority of users are not evil, nor are they killing the industry. Downloading has not had the horrible effect on music sales that these yokels claimed. I've no problem with people getting their due for their work and I don't think it's cool to profit by ripping off the next person. However it seems like big industry wants to profit anyway they can. Greed, and not innovation is their motivation.

The internet, like its predecessors, was predicted to be the finalnail in the coffin. Radio, vcrs and so forth were the beginning of the beginning of the end or the end of the beginning of the end or something like that, but this internet...the sky REALLY is falling this time. To hear the RIAA and its followers tell it, entertainment as we know it is in its last days, unless the internet is stopped.

The early days of internet were great fun, and that's pretty much what it was used for. It wasn't taken seriously until corporations realized that this new technology could be used for more than obscene late night chat and thieving thousands of songs in an evening. In it's infancy, radio was seen primarily as a source of entertainment as opposed to an important technology. When the next big technological "thing" hits, lets hope the corporate world has learned its lesson.
